Non-magnetic stabilizers are a critical component in directional drilling and measurement-while-drilling operations, where magnetic interference can affect sensor accuracy. Shanxi Zhonghe, a manufacturer of non-magnetic drilling tools, said its material selection and precision manufacturing processes are designed to limit such interference in extreme downhole conditions.
Non-magnetic stabilizers and drilling accuracy
Non-magnetic stabilizers play a central role in directional drilling and measurement-while-drilling (MWD) and logging-while-drilling (LWD) operations. They are used to maintain borehole stability and guide bit direction while avoiding the magnetic interference that conventional steel tools can introduce to magnetometers and other sensors.
Shanxi Zhonghe said its products are manufactured to maintain stable physical properties and low magnetic permeability in extreme downhole environments. The aim is to reduce interference with sensor signals and support accurate wellbore trajectory control.
Material selection and manufacturing controls
The magnetic permeability of non-magnetic stabilizers depends on control of the raw material's chemical composition and heat-treatment processes. Shanxi Zhonghe said it applies a strict material quality control system to ensure each production batch meets industry requirements for low magnetic permeability.
The company said it can supply customized drilling tools based on well conditions, tool dimensions and specific technical standards. Downhole environment parameters and technical specifications are used to determine the appropriate equipment selection.
International exhibition plans
Shanxi Zhonghe has confirmed it will attend ONS 2026 in Norway. The company said the exhibition would be used to present its non-magnetic drilling products to international oil and gas companies and to discuss drilling technology with industry partners. The event is scheduled to take place in Norway.
